SEE TEFL, in partnership with the DSS Education Foundation, is now offering a new Volunteer option along with the traditional 120-hour 4-week complete TEFL certification course.
SEE TEFL certification is a requirement for all DSS volunteers. Other than training costs, the only other volunteer expense is the direct costs of the visa and work permit (less than US$200)
Volunteer Placement
Direct placement in one of a number of volunteer opportunities from preschool through to adult, at no additional cost. Most of these are in the Chiang Mai area. Placements are available in a local temple teaching monks and novice monks; a local orphanage; a government college of nursing and temple schools

SEE TEFL Commitment
- Sponsor and administer for no extra cost a 1-year Non-immigrant “O” volunteer visa and work permit for volunteers who commit to at least 6 months
- Sponsor and administer for no extra cost a 3-month or 1-year Non-immigrant “O” volunteer visa for volunteers who commit to at least 2 months
- Place the student in a volunteer opportunity through its sister program at the nonprofit DSS Education Foundation
- Award full TEFL certification to the volunteer
The Volunteer will
- Provide a police clearance if working with children. This can be obtained in the volunteer’s home country or in Thailand (details on request)
- Successfully complete the TEFL certification course (>95% completion rate)
- Volunteer as an English teacher at least 4 hours per week (16 hours/month)
- The volunteer is responsible for the direct costs of the Visa and Work Permit (less than US$200 payable directly to the Thai immigration and labor departments)
Visa and Work Permit
A non-immigrant “O” visa allow volunteer teachers to create bank accounts, register motorbikes or cars, and doesn’t require evidence of a large sum of money in a Thai bank or proof of high monthly income.
Give Back, Support the Community
This is a great opportunity to give back, to serve the Chiang Mai community. There are many people, both children and adults, who can greatly benefit and have a strong desire to learn English from foreign speakers.
